LINUX
choice (chois), n., adj.,
choic•er, choic•est. n. 1. an act or instance of choosing;
selection: a wise choice of friends. 2. the right,
power, or opportunity to choose; option.

So here you
are, looking at a Web page. On the Internet. Through
your computer. And unless you've made a conscious effort
to change things, there is an 80% probability that if
you're on your own personal computer, it is running
an Operating System that has been put there without
any input from you at all. And that being the case,
it's most probably some variant of Microsoft's Windows
(TM) Operating System. Now, being that you've made it
at least this far--actually having made it online and
all--you are obviously a person of some intelligence.
And being a person of intelligence, you're undoubtedly
rather tired of people spoon-feeding you--and then charging
you near to or more than a C-note every time it is decided
that you need something bigger and better. Hrmmmm?
Wouldn't you, being the intelligent sort, think that
there must be a better way? Ahhhh, how right you are.
Probably the greatest accomplishments of this
Internet age is the phenomenon taking the world by storm
know as Linux. Never heard of it, you say? That's rather
surprising. I would think that being a person of intelligence,
you would have kept yourself better informed about the
best that there is for your computer. But hear of it
you shall. In the past 2 years, Linux has steadily been
developing an extremely large user base, as well as
developers for it. Already, there exists thousands of
industrial-strength applications for Linux--and the
best part of all is Linux is free!! And
most of the Linux applications that you will find are
100% free. 'But I like to spend money on things!!' you
say. Well fear not. Linux has many commercial applications
written explicitly for it as well. To name but a few:
Informix, Oracle, DB2, MovieScreamer, Quake, Doom, Vibe,
XBasic, CodeWizard, VBIX, MAT, Motif. But there are
far better lists than this
short, pathetic one. I strongly recommend a look-see--I
guarantee you'll be pleasantly surprised.
